Tamilong 20mg (Tamoxifen)
Tamilong 20 contains 30 tablets 20mg/tab of the active ingredient Tamoxifen citrate. Tamoxifen belongs to a class of drugs called selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) which possess both estrogenic and anti-estrogenic effects.
Tamoxifen is used for the treatment of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer which has spread to other parts of the body in women and in men. It is also used to treat early stages of breast cancer in women who have received treatments via surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Tamoxifen reduces the risk of a more serious type of breast cancer in women who received other forms of treatment. This drug also used as prevention, reducing the risk of developing breast cancer in women who are at high risk due to family medical history, age, and personal medical history. This drug may be used to treat other medical conditions not stated above.
Tamoxifen works by binding to estrogen receptors and blocks the estrogen’s proliferative effects on breast tissues, stopping the growth of breast tumors that require estrogen.
Tamilong 20 is manufactured by HAB Pharmaceuticals and Research Ltd.
Dosage requirement varies per patient. Before taking this medication, patients must first consult a healthcare provider to get the right dosage requirement. Once prescribed by a doctor, a patient must strictly follow the dosage.
The usual adult doses of Tamilong 20 for breast cancer and after a steroid cycle, are as follows:
In treating metastatic breast cancer in women and men: 20mg to 40mg daily for at least 2 weeks.
In reducing the risk of breast cancer in high-risk women 20mg once a day for 3 years.
If Tamilong is to be used to reduce the risk of breast cancer, the first dose may need to be taken while having menstrual period. A physician will decide on the duration of therapy of Tamilong in treating breast cancer.
Tamilong tablet is taken orally, swallowed whole with a glassful of water. The tablet may be taken with or without food. Doses higher than 20mg should be given in divided doses, usually divided in half and taken twice daily.
This drug is best taken regularly, around the same time each day and strictly follow the physician’s instructions to get optimum benefit from it. Regular physical exams, self-examination and mammograms are recommended for it is possible to develop breast cancer while taking this medication.
Take a missed dose as soon as remembered. Skip the missed dose if it’s almost time for the next dose. Never double the dose just to make up for the missed one.
Patients with known allergy to the active ingredient and any of the inactive ingredients of Tamilong, must not take this medication.
Pregnant women must not take this medication as it may harm an unborn baby. Getting pregnant must be prevented while on Tamoxifen therapy. Using of non-hormonal birth control such as condom or diaphragm is recommended while taking this medication and at least 2 months after drug therapy.
